We present ~ 18" (5.8 kpc) resolution lambda 21-cm VLA observations of the distribution and kinematics of neutral hydrogen (HI) associated with the interacting Seyfert galaxy, NGC7469 and its companion galaxy, IC5283. HI emission is detected from the disks of both galaxies, and an additional tidally disturbed bridge of gas connects them. The total HI gas mass in the system is 5.4 x 10(9) M_sun. Radio continuum emission from both galaxies is also detected. The radio continuum from IC5283 originates along the 10-kpc extent of the galactic disk, while the continuum emission in NGC7469 is concentrated in the central 6.4-kpc nuclear region. Deep HI absorption is detected against the radio continuum nucleus in NGC7469 and consists of a primary absorption component, centered at 4952 km s(-1) , and a weaker blue-shifted component which is consistent with gas outflow detected in optical studies. We discuss the detailed analysis of the gas distribution and kinematics in the system and the possibility of mass-transfer induced starburst or Seyfert activity.
