In 2009, the European Southern Observatory Libraries made the decision to move away from a commercial library system to an open-source library system. In this paper, we will discuss our motivations and the selection process behind our decision to move. We will describe the implementation process and the steps we are taking to customize the system to fit our organization's needs. We will finish by revealing the advantages and disadvantages of having such a system as well as what we learned along the way.
