We propose to observe the super-metal-rich globular clusterG198 in M31. We wish to obtain deep images in the F555W (V)and F814W (I) bands, taking advantage of the high spatialresolution and red sensitivity of the Planetary Camera ofWFPC2, in order to construct a color-magnitude diagram forG198. With respect to the outstanding properties of thiscluster, we will address primarily the question of itsmetallicity both on an absolute scale, by comparison withtheoretical stellar evolutionary tracks, and on a relativescale, by comparison with a sample of clusters used asstandards. The data we propose to obtain would provideessential input for theories of stellar evolution, starformation history, and models of star cluster and galaxyformation.
