Solar Flares: Temperatures

Basic diagnostic tools in high resolution X-ray spectroscopy to measure electron temperatures and emission measures of hot thermal plasmas are introduced and applied to solar flares. Differential nature of flare thermal plasmas has been clarified; the maximum temperatures of flares reached in soft X-ray emission lines show very week dependence on flare intensity and the universal distributions and evolutions of differential emission measures is predominant.
