The evolution of charge state distributions of minor ions within closed diamagnetic structures (plasmoids) propagating under the influence of buoyancy and gravity through the solar corona is investigated in a theoretical study. A system of equations describing the dynamics, the internal energy balance, and the ionization processes is solved numerically. It is shown that plasmoids that gain sufficient kinetic energy to reach distances of several solar radii from the solar surface without being overheated often contain neutral or weakly ionized species such as He+, C4+, and O2+ reminiscent of occasional observations of solar wind plasma originating from coronal mass ejections.
