Magellanic Clouds, X-Rays: Stars
Scientific paper
The LMC supersoft x-ray source RX J0439.8-6809, discovered in the ROSAT All-Sky Survey, is identified with a faint (V_mean_ = 21.6), very blue (B - V= -0.29, U - B= -1.25) star. Photometry obtained at CTIO in 1995 November reveals a low-amplitude short-period light curve. The most likely periods are near 0.1403 and 0.1637 days. The system is compared to 1E 0035.4-7230, another supersoft x-ray source in the Magellanic Clouds.
