Interplanetary Magnetic Fields, Solar Wind Plasma, Sources Of Solar Wind

Scientific paper

Structural features of interplanetary magnetic fields (IMFs) observed by the Pioneer Venus orbiter have been compared with those obtained from near-Earth observations. Special attention was paid to comparing IMF structures that originated from the same heliographic longitudes. As a result, we have found that solar source regions of the IMF sector boundaries correspond sometimes to solar sources of interplanetary flux ropes. We have also obtained evidence that one solar source can produce a number of flux ropes intermittently. These results indicate the dynamic nature of the IMF sector boundaries caused by transient phenomena in the solar atmosphere.
