A method is developed to investigate viscous oscillations of liquid ellipsoids of revolution. The method is based on the possibility of arriving, for oscillations of a concrete type, at a system with a finite number of degrees of freedom. The obtained general solution is valid for disturbances of any order and makes it possible to gradually proceed from regular deformations of a figure to the local waves (ripple) on its surface.
