Recent observations of metal-poor halo field stars suggest that stars with orbits that take them into the outer halo have lower [(alpha)/Fe] values than inner halo field stars of similar metallicity. A similar pattern has been observed between the inner halo globular cluster M4 and the outer halo globular cluster M5. These two clusters have nearly identical [Fe/H] values, but their Si/Fe ratios, for example, differ by a factor of two. This suggests that a similar enhancement gradient exists for the globular cluster system as well, but detailed abundance studies exist for very few outer halo globular clusters. We therefore propose to measure abundances for the outer halo globular clusters M53 and M5466 in order to expand the sample. The results from these clusters will be compared to the previous results for the similar-metallicity inner halo clusters M15, M92, and NGC 6397.
