Galaxy formation involves an enormous range of physical and mass scales. Properties of galaxies, such as rotation, density profile, triaxiality, accretion, etc. reflect to a large extent the environment in which the galaxy formed. To be able to successfully model galaxy formation therefore it is necessary to resolve small scales (both in mass and length) while including the effects due to events at much larger scales. As part of my thesis, I have been developing a hybrid Tree and particle mesh code that will be able to achieve regridding. This will allow us to simulate in detail small regions of the Universe while being capable of including the effect of mass at large distances. The Department of Astrophysics at Princeton University intends to acquire a Grape machine, a parallel processing Poisson equation solver. The code is to be designed so as to be able to use this hardware.
