Submillimeter observations of the Serpens star forming region are presented. Recent CS 5--4 and 7--6 maps made with the Caltech Submillimeter Observatory show dense cores associated with both SVS-20 and FIRS-1 and an additional core near SVS-20 which is probably associated with a near by nebulous object. There is evidence for velocity gradients in these cores. CO 2-1 maps show the presence of broad lines with a complicated velocity field over much of the region around SVS-20 and FIRS-1. Maps made using the JCMT show a continuuum source associated with each dense core.
