The high spatial resolution and the low instrumental background of the Chandra satellite offer the unique possibility of efficiently stacking X-ray photons up to equivalent exposures of several tens of Megaseconds in the Chandra deep fields (CDFS and CDFN). It is possible to study, at least in a statistical sense, the X-ray properties of sources of the XRB down to extremely faint fluxes. Here we briefly outline the results of three applications of the stacking in the Chandra deep fields, aimed at studying the properties of the 6.4 keV iron line and its evolution with redshift, and the average properties of the optically faintest X-ray sources.
