For classical Cepheids, there is a persistent discrepancy between measured masses and masses from evolutionary and pulsation calculations. To investigate whether this could be due to mass loss we observed a sample of galactic Cepheids with Spitzer IRAC and MIPS to search for infrared excess in the energy distributions. IRAC and MIPS 24 micron data provide excellent Leavitt Laws (Period-Luminosity relations), based on available distances, including recent HST parallaxes.
Funding for this work was provided by Spitzer grant 1288762 and Chandra X-ray Center NASA Contract NAS8-39073.
