The neutrino deuteron scattering processes, ν darrow ν np and ν darrow epp (employed by SNO to measure the ^8B solar neutrino flux) and the proton-proton fusion process pparrow de^+ν (which provides the principle energy and neutrinos of the Sun) are crucial for neutrino astrophysics. However, they have not been constrained experimentally. Various proposals to calibrate these processes will be discussed in the frame work of effective field theory. Muonic deuteron weak capture which could be measured at PSI will be emphasized.
