The current status of the analysis of technetium lines in stellar and solar spectra is reviewed. Particular attention is given to the suitability and efficiency of various versions of the method of the self-consistent Hartree-Fock field for theoretical studies of neutral technetium spectra, wavelength calculations, and calculations of other characteristics of electron transitions in Tc. Results indicate a significant overlap in the energy spectra of these configurations, and therefore correlation effects must be considered. For this purpose, the energy spectrum of the 4d5 5s2 configuration is analyzed using a three-configuration approximation and also the second order of a slightly modified perturbation theory. An analysis of the resulting energy spectrum and eigenfunction weight structure indicates that the single-configuration approximation is inadequate.
