In connection with the brightness of Arcturus and its use as a standard and reference star, a number of investigations have been concerned with this star. However, no satisfactory consensus has been obtained regarding the temperature of Arcturus. The present investigation has, therefore, the objective to obtain a reliable value for the effective temperature of Arcturus (Alpha Boo, K2III). The investigation is based on new broadband photometry in the wavelength range from 0.4 to 2.2 micrometers, taking into account a comparison of the observed energy distribution with model atmosphere fluxes. The estimated effective temperature for Arcturus provided as a result of the conducted analysis is 4375 + or - 35 K.
