The dependence of impact crater diameter on projectile kinetic engergy is shown through the reformation of expressions derived by Opik (1969). Comparisons of the reformed theory with the model of Gault (1973) and Oberbeck and Aogayi (1972) demonstrate good agreement between theory and experiment over 17 orders of magnitude of kinetic energy. This degree of success is predicated on the ability to formulate Opik's expression in terms of projectile kinetic rather than the usually proposed projectile momentum.
