Strömgren (uvby)- and Walraven (VBLUW) photometry of the 1983 eclipse of BL Tel is presented and discussed. Significant differences in the depth of the minimum and the colour variations during the eclipse compared with those of the previous recorded minima, are found and discussed. The metallicity of the bright F-type companion is presumably nearly solar and its gravity amounts to log g ≡ 1 - 2.
