Following the discovery of a dust cloud around an A-type shell star the authors examine the situation of all known Ae/A shell stars. They have found 19 stars of this group observed by IRAS, and of these 19, 8 are infrared anomalous emitters (IAE). The temperatures of the anomalous emitting sources are of the order of 50 - 400K, although three cases require two superposed cool sources. The proportion of IAE's among Ae/A shell stars is very high, when compared to a sample of non-shell A-type stars. This suggests a close link between the membership in the group and IAE.
