The increase of the number of galactic H II regions with well determined photometric distances and radial velocities made a new determination of the galactic rotation curve possible. From suitably selected local H II regions new values for the local rotation constants were derived resulting in r0 = 7.9±0.7 kpc, A0 = 16.0±1.3 km s-1kpc-1. The resulting rotation curve for r < r0 relies mainly on radio data, and in the innermost 4 kpc non circular gas motion was taken into account. For r > r0 the curve is based on the H II region data. The resulting rotation curve is remarkably flat on a large scale although it is decreasing from 200 km s-1 to 170 km s-1 between r = 6 kpc and r = 10 kpc and again rises back to θ = 200 km s-1 at r = 16 kpc. It thus bears great similarity to the rotation curves observed for other large Sb and Sc galaxies.
