The introduction of an ultraviolet slit with U filter into the Hipparcos satellite star mappers, as part of the Tycho experiment, is proposed. Tycho uses star mapper data to observe 400,000 stars brighter than B-11, with accuracy at B = 10 of 0.03 arcsec for position and 0.03 mag for B and V magnitudes. A slit of width 10 arcsec, 20 arcmin length, perpendicular to scan direction is assumed. This gives observing time of 0.067 sec per star mapper passage, and 3 sec total observing time for the 30 month mission. Accuracy at B = 10 of 0.08 mag for spectral types BO and AO to GO is predicted.
