UBV data for 75 young open clusters divided into 14 age groups are used in constructing C-M diagrams in order to derive the Initial Mass Function (IMF) for the mass range 1.25-14 solar masses. This is done by counting the stars contained between theoretical isomasses. It is found that the average IMF for the best studied groups can be approximated by a power law with a slope of x = 1.7. It is noted that this slope is somewhat flatter than that found by Claudius and Grosbol (1980) in the mass range 2.2-10 solar masses. It is thought that this discrepancy may derive from some flattening of the IMF at lower masses, as suggested by Miller and Scalo (1979) for field stars. No contradiction is found between the results reported here and those of Lequeux (1979) for field stars in the mass range 2.5-100 solar masses.
