Under the assumption that the collapsing material is transparent, Hawking (1975) has established that at very late times the emission of particles by a collapsing mass (through quantum effects) yields a thermal-energy spectrum. It is here shown that the assumption of perfect transparency can be replaced by the more realistic assumption of partial or total absorption with no change in the final emitted spectrum.
