An investigation is conducted concerning the possibility that certain unidentified infrared bands recently found in astronomical sources might be related to a substance consisting of carbonaceous material. The material considered would resemble the high molecular weight organic compounds found in the carbonaceous chondrites. The material proposed is related in some ways to the graphite-like material which has long been considered as a possible grain constituent.
