During the past several years, worldwide communication within the astronomical community via the Internet has increased dramatically. Today it is possible to have access to the very latest discoveries within minutes of their being first recognized. This has proved very helpful in facilitating immediate follow-up observations by a great number of observers and a multitude of instruments. In the same sense, it is possible to see details of observations obtained sometimes only minutes earlier. However, as the authors will attempt to demonstrate, there are indications that it also has the potential to influence observers in some very negative ways.
