Frequently, the runs of temperature and density in line emitting media are not smooth but show statistical fluctuations. Consequently, the emergent intensities are no longer deterministic but have to be described by statistical distribution functions w. Here, closed expressions for w are derived for lines from two-level-atoms. They are exact if the Planck function has a stochastic depth dependence and other quantities are deterministic, and in the general case, are correct to first order in the statistical perturbations. The depth dependences of the extinction coefficient, the deexcitation parameter, and the redistribution function may be chosen arbitrarily, but must be prescribed.
