Using an exact density of states formalism, a series of average-atom calculations have been made to investigate the effects of resonance scattering states on the opacity of an Al plasma. For densities in the range from 10 to 100% of solid density and at temperatures kT = 10 - 30 eV, the model shows that the pressure ionized 3p state forms a resonance state with an accompanying strong 1s3p transition a few eV above the 1s edge.
