This proposal defines the procedure for determining the instrumental polarization of the polarimetric IDT (IDT#1, POL) on the HSP. Three (3) unpolarized standard stars wil be observed using various filter-polarizer combinations for three (3) different roll angles (0d, +60d, +120d). Two sets of observations will be taken at +30d and -30d to be followed 60 days later by two more sets of observations at +30d and -30d (for a total range of 120d). These observations will permit the instrumental polarization to be calibrated. The instrumental polarization must be determined to a high precision in order to vectoriallly remove it from HSP polarization observations to determine the actual astronomical polarization.
