We have developed a semi-analytical internal shock model for blazars. This model has been used to study the time-dependent SEDs, spectral variability and inter-band time lags for generic flat-spectrum radio quasars and low-frequency peaked BL Lac objects. In particular, we present results of an extensive parameter study which illustrate that slight parameter changes may substantially alter time lag patterns and even reverse the signs of hard/soft lags.
