M81 is a very nearby spiral galaxy with an extremely compact nucleus and
weak Seyfert like activity. Studies with the FOC will provide
unprecedented resolution in the nuclear regions. Imaging at f/96 and
spectrosopy at f/48 are proposed to study both the gas and the stars in
the nuclear region.
