VHE gamma-ray emission has been reported for about 30 active galactic nuclei. All of the persistent sources are high-frequency peaked BL Lac objects, or belong to the parent population of (presumably less-beamed) FRI radio galaxies. These types of AGN are dominated by non-thermal emission at all frequencies and show little or no contributions from accretion disk continuum or emission lines. Here we report the detection of VHE emission from the broad-line Quasar PKS 1510-089 during an extended multiwavelength campaign, providing simultaneous broad band coverage and monitoring throughout the electromagnetic spectrum. We discuss implications for gamma-ray opacities from the intrinsic, thermal radiation fields.
