Scientific paper

Observational data on nonthermal optical, radio, and X radiation from the Crab Nebula are reviewed. The origin of the wisps in the vicinity of the pulsar is considered, and it is proposed that the wisps represent stimulated optical synchro-Compton (laser) radiation from periodically injected electrons and positrons at the inner edge of the nebula. A quantitative estimate of the laser effect is given.
