Measurements of Lyman-alpha and Lyman-beta profiles, as obtained by the Copernicus satellite for 20 early-type stars, are reported. The profiles are compared with theoretical profiles computed using unblanketed non-LTE model atmospheres. The Ly-alpha profiles are found to be systematically broader than the Ly-beta profiles, contrary to the theoretical predictions; this discrepancy is ascribed to line-blanketing effects.
