I will discuss signatures of the warm-hot intergalactic medium, the repository of the so-called missing baryons of the cosmos, in X-rays and UV absorption. I will summarize the evolution of the WHIM in current hydrodynamic simulations, including the contribution of large-scale outflows to the WHIM temperature and metallicity. I will argue that X-rays likely offer a more promising way to characterize a large fraction of the WHIM in spite of the UV's sensitivity advantages, and discuss prospects for detection with next-generation instruments.
