Quasi-simultaneous infrared photometric and SiO maser spectroscopic observations are presented. SiO was detected in miras (5 objects), supergiants (2 objects), and OH/IR sources (7 objects); in a sample of seventeen oxygen-rich late-type candidates, only three OH/IR sources were not detected. A comparison between bolometric luminosities (derived from JHKLM photometric data) and SiO luminosities is presented. From this limited sample, it seems that the relative SiO luminosity is similar in OH/IR objects and in optically identified long period variables, suggesting that the previous attempts to detect 86 GHz SiO maser emission in OH/IR objects were largely unsuccessful mainly because of their larger distances.
