Galactic Center, Black Hole
Scientific paper
The development of sensitive near-IR instruments and adaptive optics on large ground-based telescopes during the last decade have made possible studies of stellar velocities in the Galactic Center to scales of less than a light day from the central radio source SgrA*. These measurements and in particular the recent determination of several keplerian orbits now provide compelling evidence that the central dark mass concentration of about three million solar masses must indeed be a massive black hole. The data also give detailed information on the properties and evolution of the nuclear star cluster, in part with very puzzling results.
