I will review what I consider to be the most relevant unsolved problems in the theory of stellar structure and evolution. Globally, one can collect them under the term "mixing processes". They probably are the reason for long-standing observational facts not being explained satisfactorily by the theory. The bearings of these unsolved problems on other parts of astrophysics, such as cosmology or population synthesis are summrized as well.
