While the exceptional brightness of the Cas A supernova remnant had made it the target of many observations by the previous generation of X-ray satellites, the tremendous advances in sensitivity and resolution provided by the launch of the Chandra Observatory has revealed surprising new views of this familiar remnant. I will briefly present some of the highlights, including the identification of a faint stellar remnant, the location of the forward shock, and the demonstration that the X-ray emitting ejecta are resolved into knots of distinctive compositions. I will review these results in the context of our prior understanding of the X-ray emission from Cas A, and also of observations at other wavelengths. I will also discuss results for the asymmetric dynamics of the X-ray emitting gas, and for the high-energy X-ray emission, which was imaged for the first time at energies beyond the Fe K blend with XMM.
