Cosmology has advanced rapidly in recent years. Observations of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation, supernovae, galaxy surveys, and other data all point towards an extraordinary model of the Universe, with large quantities of nonbaryonic dark matter and even more mysterious "dark energy." Recent observations of the microwave background, especially the WMAP observations, have detected unambiguous signatures of acoustic waves propagating through the early Universe. The power spectrum of these waves strongly constrains our picture of the Universe. Future observations, particularly those of CMB polarization, will allow even more precise determination of what the Universe is made of. Among the most exciting possibilities is that CMB polarization observations may detect a clear signature that of an inflationary epoch in the very early Universe.
