IRAS 17213-3841 is listed as a carbon star in the new carbon star catalog. However, the IRAS low-resolution spectrum (LRS) of this star shows the oxygen-rich silicate emission feature. Furthermore, from the optical spectral observation it is shown that this star is an early type emission line star with the spectral type of O9/B0 and near the ZAMS, but not a carbon star. Therefore, it should be removed out from the carbon star catalog. In addition, the near infrared-IRAS two color diagram method which is used to identify this star as carbon star is not a perfect reliable method. Using this method to identify carbon stars must be done with caution.
