Hard X-ray flux has been detected from several short-period white dwarf binary star systems, including AM Herculis. The best fit to the AM Herculis data is provided by a power law with exponent -0.84. Thermal bremsstrahlung emission arising from spherical accretion onto a degenerate dwarf does not adequately explain the AM Herculis observations.
