Observations of the zodiacal light made from the Helios 1 solar probe near perihelion have been analyzed for the presence of a dust free zone. No change in the relative angular brightness distribution of zodiacal light was found while the speacecraft approached the sun from 0.5 to 0.31 AU. This is consistent with a continuation of the dust distribution observed at larger heliocentric distances, where n(r) is proportional to the -1.3 power of r, to at least 0.09 AU, the limiting distance observable from Helios 1. The known brightness and brightness gradient of the F corona are compatible with a further continuation of this power law increase in dust density inward to a few solar radii, where the existence of dust-free zones was detected by infrared observations.
