The writer carried out a photometric study of Mars between 1991 and 2006 using a photoelectric photometer and Johnson B, V, R and I filters. These filters are sensitive to light with wavelengths of 420, 540, 700 and 860 nanometers respectively. Mars' geometric albedo, in the V filter was 10-15 percent higher during the 1997 and 1999 apparitions than during the 2001, 2003 and 2005 apparitions. This difference is largely due to the high number of bright, condensate clouds on Mars that were visible from Earth during 1997 and 1999 compared to 2001-2005. Mars was also redder during 2001-2005 than in the late 1990s; this is also likeky due to the low number of bright (and white), condensate clouds on Mars that were visible from the Earth during 2001-2005.
