We present the polarimetric and spectropolarimetric observations of V838 Mon and surrounding field stars taken at Asiago and Crimean observatories. We focus our attention on the interstellar polarization of V838 Mon and of the polarization of field stars around it. We discuss the implications in terms of reddening, selective absorptions, and distance of V838 Mon.
