The spectroscopic evolution of V838 Mon from outburst onset (Jan 2002)
to the time of this Conference (May 2006) is reviewed. Emphasis is
placed upon the overall evolution, that of line profiles and molecular
absorptions, the B3V companion, the continued mass loss, and the
spectroscopic analogies between V838 Mon, M31-RV and V4332 Sgr.
