H (1.65 micrometer)- and K (2.2 micrometer)-band high-resolution images are presented for the pre-main-sequence binary T Tau. A resolution of 0.28 sec in full width at half maximum (FWHM) was achieved in the K band by applying a shift-and-add method to short-exposure frames. While a small outburst with an amplitude of approximately 2 mag had happened on the infrared companion of T Tau (T Tau S) around 1990, the observed flux of T Tau S decreased by a factor of approximately 1 mag from its maximum value in both the H and K bands at the time of 1992 January. Our data points limit the duration of the outburst to only a few years. In view of the amplitude and duration, the outburst might have been an EXor outburst, which is like an FUor outburst, with a smaller amplitude and a shorter duration. If T Tau S is in the FUor phase, as Ghez et al. (1991), have proposed, our data show that the EXor-type outburst can occur in the FUor phase of infrared companions. The outburst appears to be a single event which had not been observed in the T Tau system for about thirty years, although smaller ones might have occurred.
