We propose to obtain high quality UV spectra of the Orion Nebula to determine its chemical abundances with much higher precision than has previously been possible. Emphasis is placed on obtaining high s/n spectra which will enable measurements of the important diagnostic lines of OIII] 1661-6 A and NIII] 1747-54 A for the first time, along with the stronger CIII] and SiIII] lines. Additional information will arise from the expected measurements of other UV lines, such as SiII], CII], HeI, etc., at s/n improvements of over an order of magnitude compared to IUE - thus enabling exceptionally accurate abundances of C-N-O-Si to be determined. These HST data in conjunction with our extensive optical, IUE, and IR observations, will be analyzed using our nebular modeling codes which treat dust physics and a 2D axisymmetric geometry. Connected with the process of accurately determining abundances and other parameters, and of much interest in its own right, will be refinement and further development of our models. Our work will improve on the He/H ratio in Orion, which is of cosmological interest because this value strongly affects the slope of the galactic dY/dZ relation and hence the primordial He abundance. We expect the observations and models to establish the extent of dust-related depletions of C and Si in Orion. Parallel WFC imagery of serendipity regions is requested to enhance further studies of the variations in ionization structure and small- scale phenomena previously demonstrated by HST in this remarkable nebula.
