The starburst model is used to show that the stellar processes expected to occur during the evolution of a metal-rich massive stellar cluster can reproduce the observed optical light curves of the Seyfert 1 NGC 4151 and NGC 5548. Observed supernovae can account for the energy and amplitude variations of individual peaks in the light curves of the nuclei. Numerical simulations under normal stellar evolution can reproduce the general shape of the light curves.
