The formation of molecular hydrogen on dust grain/aerosol analogues is of interest in the evolution of the chemical make-up of the ISM and of planetary atmospheres, such as Titan's. We have studied hydrogen recombination reactions on surfaces of particles using a combination of atomic/molecular beams and surface science techniques. The results are analyzed using rate equations and the activation energies of the processes leading to molecular hydrogen formation are obtained1. The results are then used to evaluate the formation of molecular hydrogen on dust grains / aerosol particles in a variety of actual ISM and planetary atmosphere environments.
