The luminosity function of stars in the LMC cluster NGC1866 has been reinvestigated on the basis of new observations in order to have light on previous contradicting results reported in the literature. We find that the difference between previous results can be understood as an artifact of statistical fluctuations. New evaluations for a much richer sample of stars appear in good agreement with the assumption of negligeable overshooting from stellar convective cores ruling out at about 9σ the claimed agreement between the luminosity function and the evolutionary scenario with strong overshooting.
